BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A Calhoun County landlord was recently convicted of fraudulently obtaining $8,850 in program funds from the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program. According to a statement issued by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, they along with the Calhoun County Prosecutor's office and the Battle Creek Police Department successfully prosecuted landlord Shane Sampson for committing fraud with a MSHDA tenant and landlord assistance program. They say Sampson recently pleaded guilty to the charges and paid restitution, closing out the case.
